Ayurveda Self-Care Course

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda, also known as Traditional Indian Medicine offers a whole-systems approach to healthcare using a variety of methods including exercise, yoga, meditation, diet, herbs and massage therapies to help promote personal health and wellbeing.  Just as acupuncture is a part of TCM or Traditional Chinese Medicine, yoga is similarly an important part of the ayurvedic system of healing.

How can Ayurveda help me?

The beauty of Ayurveda is that it helps you to work out your unique mind-body type (dosha) which means that you can tailor your diet, exercise and even yoga practice to enable you to self-care optimally.  Ayurveda teaches you to detect imbalances in your body-mind long before they have the chance to develop into disease.  With a little knowledge and understanding of this incredible holistic science, you can take control of your health and feel empowered to make healthful decisions regarding your wellbeing.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for anyone who wishes to take a holistic approach to the management of their health and wellbeing.  Yoga teachers and other healthcare professionals can obtain a certificate of study (insured by Wellbeing Insurance) which will enable them to integrate aspects of Ayurveda into their existing professional practice.

How do I study this course?

Ayurveda is an experiential science that needs to be lived in order to fully understand and appreciate its power.  This course is therefore based around the integration of what you have learned into your daily life.  You will receive 6 hours of tuition and coaching via the interactive Zoom platform that can be divided into timeframes to suit your learning.  For example you may want to connect for half an hour every week or two hours every other week or even 1 hour a month.  Between our sessions you will be given some reading to do, simple protocols to follow, a nutrition log to keep and self-care practices to enjoy.

What support will I receive?

Between sessions you will also receive feedback/guidance/suggestions via email and preferred social media platforms such as WhatsApp where you can readily share such things as photos of meals you have made, food diary sheets and exercise records.  I will be there to be accountable to and to motivate you every step of the way!  You will also receive a book on Ayurveda through the post to aid your study and full access to the video library containing a range of holistic fitness practices.  The course can be undertaken over a number of times/dates that fit in with your lifestyle and from the comfort of your home.  You can also use one session to visit me at my home studio for some hands-on yoga/meditation/exercise tuition.

What will I learn?

The first session will comprise of an ayurvedic consultation to help determine your dosha or unique mind-body type and you will be asked to complete and return a pre-consultation questionnaire beforehand.  Subsequent sessions introduce you to the foundational principles of Ayurveda so that you can eventually apply them to your own self-care.  The course is not prescriptive but tailors content to your goals and needs.  For example someone who wants to use Ayurveda to help them manage their weight will have a  different learning pathway to someone who wants to improve their sleep.

How much does the course cost?

The full cost of the course is £300 which works out at £50 for each hour of tuition and coaching and includes inter-session support and feedback and full access to the video library.  I see it as an investment rather than a cost as what you will learn and apply to yourself should benefit you financially in the long run.
